October Meaties Poster

The next Meaties has a poster... and this is it.

DND for Dads Commission: Quietus Minimus

Here is the first ever DND for Dads commission sheet. I have yet to hear from the commissionee or his son... I hope they both dig it.

Remember you too can commission your own DND for Dads sheets. I am wrapping up the first round of commissions now and will be ready for more soon.

Its official... Wango!

So I am officially announcing the title of my 24 Hour Comic... WANGO THE WALLABY: Trouble in Consoletown. joining me in the 24 hour madness will be my sometime collaboration partner Kevin Freitas and of course... YOU!

Each year I invite YOU to donate to the Cartoonist's League of Absurd Washington's Scholarship Fund. You can do this on site at Comic Book Ink or online using the following button:

All donations go completely into the Scholarship Fund... which is awarded to a lucky student once a year. When you donate you are then given the opportunity to help write the comic as it is being created. The first year I actually drew people into the comic. Last year I set up a Mad Libs like form that wrote the script for me...

THIS YEAR... I am going to ask you a simple question. What is your favorite Video Game of all time? Each donation gives you a chance to offer your video game suggestion... which will then be used to dictate the progress of the story. Wango is a video game character you see... but he won't just be confined to HIS video game. Not this time. Help us figure out where Wango pops up and help donate to a worthwhile scholarship in the process.

More will be posted as we get closer to the event!

24 Hour Comics Day pimping

Today I start pimping for 24 Hour Comics Day! I will be at Comic Book Ink Saturday for 24+ hours drawing. There will be interactive elements! More to come... including a promo and how to donate to the The Cartoonist's League of Absurd Washingtonians scholarship fund to help dictate the flow of my comic!

This is the poster I created for the local event. I want to thank Mark Monlux for contributing the Return of Stickman strip for the poster.

More information to come... Keep checking back!

DND for Dads Commission Funtime!

As you can see... I have decided to start taking commissions for DNDforDads style stuff. I can't bring myself to charge for the premade character sheets. Those I made for people to have fun with. But the illustration mercenary in me figures there are a few people who might like one of these sheets for their own PC. For those people this post exists. If you enjoy DNDforDads but don't want to spend any money... that is totally cool. I will keep releasing DNDforDads stuff free of charge. This is for people who have a little disposable Paypal money and want some custom made geek art. And it will help me keep at the whole DNDforDads thing. Which I think is cool and I hope you do too. Depending on the response this will likely be a limited time offer... starting now.

DND for Dads Errata: The Summons

It has been brought to my attention by several people that although a few of the DND for Dads characters have cool summoning powers that I neglected to add stats for any of the things that got summoned. So this post is my very first Errata. I give you the Summoned Things... Zombie Kitty, Big Fat Toad and the Big Spirit of Wind and Fire (Summoned with the MY BIG COMPANION power). Enjoy.

DND for Dads 2 The Girls Part 1

Here are three of the six sheets features characters for girls. This is the Paladin, Monk and Bard based ones. Tomorrow I'll post the Necromancer, Rogue and Warlord. Once they are all posted I'll make a compiled high rez PDF available. How and where I am going to do that is still up in the air a bit but I'll figure it out. Maybe I'll add some extras into it too.

"Super" Chalk

This weekend I had the pleasure of being invited to participate in an art event at my favorite local comic book store, Tacoma's own COMIC BOOK INK. There several artists, myself and several of my fellow CLAW members, had 3 hours to draw a DC superhero to celebrate the relaunch of the DC Universe. I chose to draw the new armored Superman. This was done freehand with no underdrawing completely in chalk. It is also up against the other insanely good pieces of chalk art also created during the event in a contest in order to win CBI gift certificates. In order to vote in this contest you must 'LIKE' your favorite chalk piece on the COMIC BOOK INK Facebook fan page. This link will get you directly to my piece but I do urge you to look around at the other pieces of art and choose your favorites. Voting continues until the 9th.

DND for Dads 1 PDF

So this morning I reposted the link to this post on Twitter (@jamesstowe if you'd like to follow me) and the response I got was pretty overwhelming. I've gone viral before with this blog but this was different. All day long actual people that play and talk and blog about Dungeons and Dragons let me know that they liked these sheets or retweeted the link to them or both. People who's writing about DND I follow and read regularly were responding not jsut to the art of these sheets... but to the sheet themselves. It wa pretty inspiring.

One thing was pretty regularly requested all day... high rez PDF versions of the sheets that could be downloaded and shared. So, that is what this is. All I ask is that you use these for good. Don't try to resell them or share them for profit. Don't pass them off as your work. Just ue them as intended... to help introduce an awesome game to people ten and under.

Now if you like them, well... I never turn down Donations. In fact, there is a Donation button right to the left of this post.

UPDATE: 9.07.11 7:30pm PST Someone suggested I try Megaupload.com to host the file. That looks like a good situation for now. can now download a smaller but still high rez version of the compiled PDF using this link:

UPDATE: 9.07.11 1:30pm PST I just got an automated letter from Dropbox that my Public account has been suspended due to heavy traffic.

DND for 8 year olds

For my son's 8th birthday party he convinced me to run Dungeons and Dragons for four 2nd graders... I decided to take actual characters made in the DND Insider and simplify them us that the boys could have fun without much of a learning curve. Here are the six characters I made from scratch for the game. I am happy to report it was a huge success, each boy had a fantastic time... and so did I. I would happily do it again.

Here are some Updates about the evolution of the project if you are linking here directly:

I made some girl specific character sheets as well.
You can find them here:

And here:

You can find a free high rez complied PDF of the Boy character sheets here:

An Errata for creatures summoned by some powers can be found here:
